Amazon plans to open a brick-and-mortar liquor store in San Francisco
  • The company is looking to launch a liquor shop in San Francisco for various alcoholic beverages.

  • Application for a liquor license and approval to open the shop in the city have been forwarded.

The e-commerce giant Amazon Incorporation has reportedly announced its plans to open a brick-and-mortar liquor shop in San Francisco. It has been claimed that the company has applied for a license to open the store for selling wine, beer, and spirits.

As per trusted sources, the store would allow the consumers to buy liquor directly from the business and provide the company a location from where it can easily deliver alcohol to the Prime Now customers of San Francisco. The applications for the liquor license however have not been approved yet and are still pending with the city and state of California.

It has been claimed that the company plans to setup a 200-sq foot storefront at the site of its present warehouse in the city. The storefront is expected to be operational during the daytime from 8 in the morning to 4 in the noon everyday but the alcohol deliveries from the store would be carried out only from 8 in the evening to midnight.

According to the trusted reports, the primary reason for opening a store in San Francisco lies with the company’s requirement to add wine and alcohol to the list of items available for delivery through the its 2-hour delivery service- Prime Now. The company currently serves its customers with the alcohol deliveries in cities of Chicago, Dallas, LA, and others through Prime Now.

For the uninitiated, Amazon first got into wine selling in the year 2012, when it started its online wine sales. Prime Now commenced distributing wine in 2015 and its expansion into the liquor sector seemed to grow even greater with the procurement of the almost nationwide whole foods grocery chain in 2017.  This had permitted Amazon a marketing and delivery foothold in over 42 states.
