Amazon rolls out Scout autonomous delivery robots in California
  • The company brings out its 6-wheeled, sidewalk-driving delivering robot for delivery in the Irvine area of California.

  • The driverless robot will begin transporting packages to the user's doorstep.

Amazon Incorporation has reportedly announced the delivery of its Scout autonomous delivery robots in South California. The 6 wheeled, sidewalk-driving delivery robots have commenced offering deliveries to shoppers in the Irvine area of the state.

As per authentic sources, initially, only a small number of devices would be assigned to deliver the packages from Monday to Friday during the daytime. This would not affect the ordering time from the customer's end with him opting for delivery options of same-day or one-day service as for the Prime members. The packages would be delivered either by the company's delivery partner or a Scout robot.

A source familiar with the matter cited that Scout has had an experience of an all-weather region and now is the time for it to run during the daytime. Amazon is still in the field test mode of Scouts and is trying to establish the new delivery system effectively and accurately.

For the uninitiated, Scout is a watertight, 6-wheels, compact sized drone which was designed, manufactured, assembled, and programmed in-house by the engineers of Amazon. It is a sturdy robot which is developed to survive the rough terrains for the daily commute. It has been embedded with in-built camera and sensors to detect and operate around the obstacles.

Reportedly, although being self-directed to deliver the packages, the Scouts for the time being have been claimed to be assisted by an ‘Amazon Scout Ambassador’ who will be interacting with the people and taking a note of their reactions towards the autonomous delivery robot. Robots do not possess the characteristics of interacting with people on the daily basis, which has led to the rolling out the Scouts to study people’s reaction.
