Amazon to expand in Austin, create 800 vacancies for new tech jobs

One of the reasons for Amazon to choose Austin is the fact that its grocery business, Whole Foods Market already has headquarters in the city.

The Jeff Bezos established Seattle-based American multinational tech giant, Amazon, has recently announced that it will be adding 800 more tech jobs to the Austin, Texas location of the company. The company’s official announcement came in after it saw arch rival, Apple taking big steps in the city.

According to the sources, the newly hired employees will join the existing 6,600 plus workers employed in the Austin area. The firm at present includes more than 1000 corporate-level professionals.

According to Associated Press, Amazon devises to recruit the new employees over the time period of several years who will eventually come to fill the 145,000-square-foot space of The Domain that is a 4 floors development in North Austin. It has been reported that the employees would concentrate on cloud computing, research science as well as software and hardware engineering.

According to reliable reports, when the American company was scouting for a new location in the country to open its second headquarters, the Texas capital made it to Amazon’s shortlist of 20 cities in consideration. The company eventually chose New York’s Long Island City and Northern Virginia in a bid to place its 50,000 employees. These locations were selected by citing the necessity for a robust talent pool. However, as the locals from Long Island city strongly opposed the move to build an office, Amazon had to drop its plans. The company further clarified that it is planning to add new jobs in other towns across the nation.

According to the reports, Austin is rapidly becoming a tech hub. The city is a center of attraction for tech professionals during its annual Southwest festival.

As per industry experts, one of the reasons for Amazon to choose Austin is the fact that its grocery business, Whole Foods Market already has headquarters in the city. As per a report, there are nearly 2600 employees currently employed in Whole Foods, Austin.
