Anheuser-Busch inks PPA agreement with Enel Green Power to be a part of the global renewable energy goal

Renowned U.S. based beer giant Anheuser-Busch has signed a contract to purchase power produced at an Oklahoma wind farm, as a strategic part of its future goal to become 100% dependent on renewable energy sources for electricity. The Oklahoma based wind farm will apparently commence operations by the end of 2017. In this regard, Anheuser-Busch has signed power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Italian multinational renewable energy corporation, Enel Green Power.

For the record, Enel Green Power has continuously been enhancing its footprints across U.S. renewable energy market by establishing strategic deals with renowned industry giants. In recent times, the company made it to the headlines for signing a deal with Google to reduce carbon footprints by promoting wind power across Kansas. By the end of this year, Enel Green Power will have a wind power plant with a capacity of nearly 1700 MW in Oklahoma, where it already has eight wind farms in operation. Moreover, Enel is also building 300 MW Red Dirt wind farm in Logan and Kingfisher counties.

Speaking about brewer Anheuser-Busch, it would be prudent to mention that the beer giant has also has taken a step forward to minimize carbon content in the environment. This power agreement is thus, Anheuser’s first large-scale renewable energy project with the Oklahoma wind farm. Furthermore, Budweiser and other beer producing firms also announced similar plans in Mexico to purchase 490 GWh electricity annually.

Currently, Anheuser-Busch is implementing only 2% of electricity from renewable energy sources, but through this deal, it aims to secure nearly 50% of the total purchased electricity in a year from the renewable power produced at the Oklahoma wind farm. Statistically, Anheuser-Busch will purchase a total 152.5 MW energy from Enel Green Power. For the record, both companies haven’t disclosed their financial terms yet.

Anheuser-Busch has also been using renewable energy sources at its other brewery facilities to accomplish the requirement for electricity. At Fairfield, Calif, it has deployed two on-site wind turbines. In addition to this, it also boasts of a combination of solar and wind energy projects, which generate energy of around 7.5 MW annually at St. Louis and other brewery facilities.

Such significant initiatives undertaken by global giants in various industrial sectors are likely to have a positive impact on the environment. Speaking along the same lines, the efforts of Anheuser-Busch toward the adoption of renewable energy will reduce the carbon content in the environment by 30% over the next eight years. The U.S. based IT firms such as Google and Amazon have also undertaken initiations to use clean energy to power their server banks. The renowned IT giant Apple has also announced that at seven of its manufacturing units, it will be deploying renewable energy to power its product manufacturing processes. The ongoing developments in renewable energy domain vividly highlight that this business space is set to depict lucrative growth prospects, say experts.
