Anthem acquires Beacon Health to expand behavioral health services

Anthem Inc, an American health insurance company, has recently announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to buy Beacon Health Options, the biggest independently held behavioral health organization in the US.

Apparently, Beacon is presently serving over 36 million individuals around all 50 states, including almost 3 million individuals under inclusive risk- based behavioral programs. This acquisition is aligned with the strategy of Anthem to diversify into health services, providing care delivery models and market-leading integrated solutions that personalize care for people with chronic and complex conditions.

According to President and CEO of Anthem, Gail K. Boudreaux, the company is working to improve lives of people, simplify healthcare and serve as a valuable and innovative partner. Anthem is focused on providing solutions that address the requirements of each and every person, he stated.

With an extensive record in the field of behavioral health, Beacon fits well within the company’s strategy to improve managing requirements of populations with complex and chronic conditions, while also providing integrated whole health solutions, Boudreaux said.

Sources close to the matter informed that this acquisition will provide Anthem the opportunity to combine its current behavioral health business with support services and successful model of Beacon, to fully scale integrated physical and behavioural health capabilities to consumers and customers countrywide.

Together, both businesses will be capable enough to improve overall health results and enhance whole person care with a robust portfolio of specialized products, more clinically expertise, wider provider networks and relationships, as well as enhanced analytics and health data. The combination will also lead to one of the most inclusive behavioral health networks capable of providing more affordable and accessible care for US consumers.

Seemingly, Anthem will acquire Beacon from Diamond Castle Holdings and Bain Capital Private Equity who invested to improve and grow the company, helping to achieve its mission. Financial terms of the transaction were yet undisclosed, although the acquisition is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter of 2019.
