Apple to experience a shortage of replacement iPhones over next weeks

The coronavirus outbreak has been putting stress on the supply chain of tech giants, and despite the fact that Apple Inc. is optimistic about achieving long term goals, progress on short-term goals appear to be a bit uncertain.

According to a new report from sources, Apple is currently informing its retail stores about the shortage of replacement iPhones, which could extend for as long as two to four weeks at least.

Sources cite that the workers were instructed in a memo that they can offer to mail replacement iPhones to consumers and give loaner devices to ease delays. Moreover, few Apple stores have also seen a lack of individual parts.

When an iPhone user brings in a damaged device to an Apple Store, the company can replace individual parts like the camera and the screen. The company usually provides a replacement phone rather than a new model if the device is beyond repair.

Meanwhile, Apple has also restricted workers to travel to South Korea, Italy, and China, and encouraged unwell employees to take leave. The company is also telling employees to attain meetings virtually.

The shortage of iPhone repair parts is one of the first noticeable impacts of the coronavirus on Apple’s supply chain. However, it is not the only effect Apple is facing recently, the company previously made a move to close all of its stores, corporate offices, and contact centers in China for a while. The company has experienced shortages for the iPad Pro recently. Moreover, the supply of the iPhone 11 has also started to decline internationally.

The company is now re-opening its retail stores in China after being forced to temporarily close all 42 of the location stores because of the coronavirus outbreak. Sources cite that the company has opened 38 retail stores as of Wednesday.
