Centene, RxAdvance and Walgreens unveil new pharmacy management model

The cloud adoption trend is increasingly picking up momentum across a plethora of industry disciplines. Among these, the healthcare and pharmaceutical sector is emerging as a prominent cloud subscriber globally. Numerous industry players, including insurance firms and pharmacies are moving to the cloud to streamline operations, mitigate risk and reduce costs.

Recently, Centene Corporation, a renowned American health insurance company, teamed up with pharmacy store chain, Walgreens and RxAdvance, an innovative pharmacy benefit manager, to introduce a novel, innovative pharmacy management model.

The innovative cloud model intends to enhance customer experience, increase transparency and essentially result in health outcomes that are far better and come at lower costs.

The proposed partnership builds upon an already existing relationship between Walgreens and Centene, a partnership that leverages Walgreens’ trusted expertise in retail pharmacy and combines it with Centene's national-level leadership in facilitating comprehensive healthcare related services to the nation’s underserved demographic, all while leveraging RxAdvance model of pharmacy benefit management that is powered by its innovative cloud platform called Collaborative PBM Cloud.

Today, these exists a need for novel pharmacy benefit management approaches, especially to serve the population that is on Medicaid. This collaboration addresses the need for leading enterprises to join forces to develop a better model, one that delivers higher level of quality care at lower pricing for medication.

The Chairman, CEO and President of Centene, Michael F. Neidorff stated that the company is committed to support a model of pharmacy benefit management that is transparent and sustainable, providing better quality care for its members at a much lower cost.

Neidorff further added that the novel pharmacy management approach would enhance transparency as well as the quality of care, all while cutting down upon unnecessary medical costs for patients.

The Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc., Stefano Pessina stated that the collaboration between payers like Centene and retail pharmacies could further revolutionize the way care is provided. Pessina further added that through the RxAdvance Collaborative PBM Cloud, the partnership could empower the company’s pharmacists by allowing them to make crucial decisions during sale to help enhance adherence and reduce medical costs that are avoidable.

All three parties have concluded on the initial markets to rollout the innovative partnership model and are already working alongside community leaders on novel pharmacy models.
