Google Inc. to acquire GIF image search start-up Tenor

Google Inc., the search engine giant, is likely to buyout Tenor, a GIF image search tool, for enhancing the efficiency of its search data. The acquisition is also likely to help Google provide the advertisers with the GIF format that has become highly popular. As per the acquisition agreement between Google & Tenor, the latter will not change its name even though it would work under Google.

Cathy Edwards, Engineering Director of Google, stated that the strategic move made by the firm was based on the increase in the daily GIF Image searches that will help the firm in establishing effective search communications with the users as well as clients.

For the record, nearly 300 million visitors used Tenor’s search tool to find GIF images every month. Reportedly, the platform provides nearly 12 billion search results for the internet users each month.

The key officials of Tenor think that the latest deal will help the company to enhance its product quality, thereby benefitting the advertisers to effectively carry out their promotional activities.

David McIntosh, the co-founder of Tenor stated that he will continue to lead the business operations of the firm along with Frank Nawabi and Erick Hachenburg.

In an optimistic note regarding its acquisition by Google, the co-founders of Tenor have claimed that the deal will help the firm to effectively carry out its mission of supporting its three billion mobile users and assist in effectively expressing themselves. After its entry in the mobile-GIF sharing business three years back, Tenor has become a dominant player across the industry.

Reports reveal that its GIF Keyboard is highly popular among users with the GIF Bot of the firm being used regularly on Facebook’s Messenger, while it’s the most used free app on iMessage succeeding GamePigeon. Tenor has been expanding its ad business since last year and has inked various pacts with key firms for effectively sponsoring of its GIF ad campaigns.
