Jaguar to shift Land Rover Discovery SUV production to Slovakia

Jaguar Land Rover Limited is reportedly shifting the manufacturing of the Land Rover Discovery SUV from its UK plant to Slovakia. The Tata Motors’s subsidiary is likely to build a new factory near Solihull unit in UK for manufacturing electric vehicles and cars running on gasoline as well as diesel.

People familiar with the matter have reported that the Discovery car production in the Solihull factory in UK will be halted early next year, thereby leading to job retrenchment. The company’s decision to manufacture electric cars at its UK unit is viewed as a major commitment from its side towards the UK manufacturing sector, amidst a scenario where UK plans to leave EU in the first quarter of next year.

After the transformation, the UK-based factory will be manufacturing new models of Range Rover as well as Range Rover Sport Models. It has been speculated that the car manufacturer will produce a new version of Range Rover Evoque SUV at its location in North England.

As per official sources, the funding & technological upgradation in Solihull will accommodate the firm’s next-gen flagship Land Rover car models. The statement further expressed that the renovation of its Halewood unit for the next Evoque validates that Jaguar has remained committed to both UK and to transformation & growth.

Jaguar Land Rover Limited has further declared that all the new models manufactured at the UK unit will run on electric batteries from 2020. Earlier in 2016, the company had declared that it will assemble Discovery SUVs in Slovakia after a new unit is established at the location.

The automaker has also signed a pact with Magna Steyr to manufacture the Jaguar E-Pace compact as well as electric I-pace car models in Austria. Authentic sources have revealed that the Slovakia Land Rover Discovery SUV car manufacturing unit will be inaugurated by the end of this year.
