Kroger to limit one customer per 120 sq. feet in all its stores

Kroger, a leading US-based grocery store chain, has reportedly announced to roll out an additional measure across the country very soon to safeguard its associates and customers by restricting the number of customers sent inside its grocery stores at a time due to the growing threat of coronavirus across the U.S.

Kroger on Monday stated that the number of shoppers sent inside the grocery stores would vary as per the size of stores. But as per the company’s new decreased capacity rules, the number would be reduced to 1 individual per 120 square feet, as per a statement published by the company.

The grocery chain announced that about 2,800 stores would limit the capacity of shoppers by half and allow entrance to only a specific number of customers on the basis of the square footage of each store. The company would monitor the number of consumers entering through the help of QueVision. The QueVision tool would help the company to keep a track of the number of shoppers entering the store.

Kroger is the largest grocery chain in the country. Apart from Kroger stores, the firm also operates supermarket chains across 35 states, including Harris Teeter, Mariano’s, QFC, King Soopers, Fry’s, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, and others.

The company stated that it utilized 50% of the capacity calculated by the international building code as its standard to make sure that social distancing is followed.

Senior Vice President of operations, Kroger, Mary Ellen Adcock stated that the company’s introduction of consumer capacity limits is another way the company is doing its part towards the flattening of the COVID-19 pandemic curve while working as a business that has been deemed essential, offering the customers with access to affordable, fresh food and products.

Adcock further added that during the nationwide pandemic, the company is committed to adopt preventive measures to ensure the health and safety of its customers, associates, and communities.
