Medopad rebrands as Huma & acquires startups BioBeats & TLT

Medopad, a British healthcare technology company, is reportedly rebranding itself as Huma and appointing Alan Milburn, the former U.K. Health Minister, as the first chairman. In addition, Huma is also announcing the acquisition of two startups, BioBeats and Tarilian Laser Technologies, to expand the scope of its biomarker business.

The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the agreement. However, it reportedly acquired BioBeats at an expected sum of $10 million. Additionally, the acquisition of TLT also includes various patents, software assets, and a new hardware device that can continuously measure blood pressure. It is currently awaiting FDA approval for this blood pressure measuring device.

The acquisition of these two AI startups will enable Huma to expand the coverage of the biomarker monitoring, specifically mental-health-related biomarkers and blood pressure indicators, as well as to extend the reach into various areas of disease prevention. It will also enable Huma to leverage the strong team of expertise built by BioBeats and TLT.

Huma has recently announced a COVID-19 tracker to keep the hospital from overflowing with the coronavirus cases. Infected patients with mild symptoms are instead being closely monitored by using devices such as watches, smartphones and other devices. Patients are subsequently asked to return to hospitals if their conditions are getting worse according to the records from the biomarkers. This way of treating patients will enable the company to efficiently cater to the rising number of patients infected by coronavirus across the globe.

As per the statement made by the new chairman, Alan Milburn, he is excited to join the Huma team to transform the health sector through the development of various digital biomarkers and have a novel understanding of how the human body reacts to the virus. Huma is currently focusing on analyzing the health of the diagnosed patients to efficiently treat the illness. Through this initiative, the company can emerge as the leader in new areas for healthcare, innovation partners, and life sciences.
