Reliance Industries unveils its new online grocery platform, JioMart

After ruling the broadband and telecom sector of India, Reliance Industries Ltd. has reportedly launched its new e-commerce platform called JioMart. With this move, the Indian giant aims on competing against behemoths like Flipkart and Amazon.

Operated by Reliance Retail, the new venture is being initially launched for customers in Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Kalyan. However, JioMart plans on gradually expanding its reach across the nation. In January 2019, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani had hinted that its group companies would jointly introduce a new e-commerce platform for grocery.

Basically, the platform will partner with local stores and , in return, providing them with low interest working capital, points of sale (PoS) terminals, inventory management skills and GST compliance. With the tagline 'Desh Ki Nayi Dukaan', the platform is touted to offer a portfolio of over 50,000 grocery goods along with pre-registration discounts.

Credible sources cite that Kiranas are already being registered and provided POS terminals with billing applications. These set ups are expected to come with digital transfer options, promotions including discount coupons, loyalty by fast-moving customer good firms and supply chain management.

Reportedly, Reliance plans to introduce an app for JioMart as well. The company’s app will connect both consumers and last-mile neighborhood stores, leveraging data and technology capabilities of Reliance Jio and cash-and-carry infrastructure of Reliance Retail.

The JioMart website mentions that its app would be compatible to Android as well as iOS operating system. The website underlines that the platform would offer free home delivery without the limitation on minimum order value.

The company also claims on offering express delivery service and ‘no questions asked return policy’. The website also offers a form to sign up a pre-registration as a seller and save up to 3,000 at the time of its launch.
