Sam’s Club and Instacart to provide same-day alcohol delivery service

Sam’s Club, a retail warehouse club owned by Walmart, recently announced that it is expanding its services to alcohol delivery, powered by Instacart, a company that provides same-day grocery delivery services. The service would currently be available in 215 stores across 12 states in the U.S., with an aim to reach other markets and cities in the coming months.

Apparently, California, Missouri, Hawaii, Illinois, Wyoming, Texas, Minnesota, Kentucky, Connecticut, Ohio, Idaho and Florida are the said to be supporting the alcohol delivery at launch. However, only select markets and not all the clubs in those states will be offering the service.

According to reliable sources, the members of Sam’s Club can order the in-house brands like  ‘Member’s Mark’ (Member’s Mark Sangria, Member’s Mark Moscato D’Asti) as well as the popular brands like Modelo Especial, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. The deliveries reportedly arrive in an hour.

Sam’s Club will have rivals that also offer same-day alcohol delivery services like Target’s Shipt, that delivers alcohol from several retailers in a number of cities, as well as Drizly, Amazon Prime Now, Postmates and other partner retailers of Instacart varying by regional chains and market. Walmart, Sam’s Club’s parent company also delivers alcohol through Walmart Grocery in select markets, sources informed.

Seemingly, the members will have to order via the Instacart app or its website. The minimum age limit will be 21 and the members will be required to present their government ID when the delivery is done.

Vice President at Adult Beverage, Racquel Harris stated that Sam’s Club’s main focus lies in offering unexpected finds, better customer experiences and quality products. The convenience of delivery has allowed people to stock up alcohol for whenever they require, Harris commented.

Instacart’s Vice President of retail, Andrew Nodes said that the company is proud of the collaboration with Sam’s Club and the extension of marketplace categories will make it more convenient for the customers to shop for groceries, household essentials and alcohol.
