Schneider Electric and GSK have signed a strategic partnership to address the issue of increasing carbon footprints

Schneider Electric, one the leading energy management information system industry giants, has recently entered into a strategic partnership with the renowned pharmaceutical market player, GSK. As per the deal, the former will provide useful information to GSK suppliers pertaining to eco-friendly drug manufacturing that would significantly lower the carbon footprints. The new agreement that stands on the premise of a strong 14-year professional relationship between both the companies would allow GSK to strengthen its energy optimization strategy. It has also been stated that this strategic business exchange will involve a collaborative forum for delivering informative content to GSK suppliers related to sustainability and renewable energy opportunities.

Over the years, GSK has come up with several breakthroughs in the healthcare industry. Recognizing the link between environmental and social health, the company in 2011, announced its carbon neutral goal by 2050. GSK’s pursuit of carbon neutrality signals the company’s commitment to stakeholders’ engaging in the firm. With 50% of the carbon emissions resulting from purchased materials, GSK realized the imminent need to take action across its entire value chain to mitigate carbon emissions.

Holding a valuation of USD 26 billion, Schneider Electric, on the other hand, is already a giant in the automation industry as far as their contribution toward efficient and sustainable energy management is concerned. Statistics depict that Schneider Electric has its service network spread over more than 100 countries across the world. Now, with this move, GSK suppliers will be benefited by the expertise involved in Schneider, as it would allow them to obtain thorough knowledge regarding sustainability and optimized energy management.

GSK suppliers’ online community Exchange program that was launched three years back in 2014, will now involve Schneider Electric, which will bring about a radical shift in its operational model by incorporating webinars, newsletters, Q&A sessions, and case studies.

The concept of carbon neutrality is gaining a global popularity with the increasing number of corporations struggling to address the climate change. In this dynamic landscape, GSK’s association with Schneider Electric will provide the former with a diversified supplier community that has a broader sustainability know-how. In this regard, it is prudent to mention that GSK has realized the cost savings associated with reduced carbon footprints. Therefore, it is no more a supposition that this alliance would not only benefit GSK with a better value chain but would also indicate a broader profitable terrain in the competitive resource restrained business space.
