Teledentistry pioneer, Smile Direct Club plans to expand in Hong Kong

SmileDirectClub, a pioneer in teledentistry recently announced plans to expand in Asia, by acquainting Hongkongers with doctor-directed remote clear aligner therapy. The company has introduced an affordable and convenient tooth straightening solution, which make a lot more sense in the present day busy schedules.

As a first medtech platform for d2c teeth straightening, the company has revolutionized the global oral care industry. SmileDirectClub has opened two SmileShops in Hong Kong which are located in Tsim Sha Tsui and Sheung Wan.

Since its inception in 2014, SmileDirectClub has been helping over 750,000 customers around the world to get a perfect smile and has become one of the fastest-growing health technology companies. The company expanded its reach beyond the U.S. in 2018, building on its network of more than 250 affiliated orthodontists and dentists to serve customers in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Ireland.

Kay Oswald, President of International, SmileDirectClub was reportedly quoted saying that being a pioneer in doctor-directed, clear aligner therapy leveraging a teledentistry platform, the company believes that everyone should experience the confidence that comes from having a perfect smile.

Oswald added saying that he foresees great potential in dental and orthodontic care market in Hongkong, and the firm believes that consumers in the country will embrace the ability to have access to an affordable, safe and quality experience.

According to a research conducted by the company, approximately 70 per cent of people in Hong Kong would feel more self-confident if they had aligned teeth and a straighter smile. The study also uncovered that the primary barrier preventing Hongkongers from aligning their teeth is high costs associated with oral care services.

SmileDirectClub’s direct-to-consumer clear aligner therapy will aid in bridging this gap with their cost-effective treatment. Apparently, the company’s braces product is priced at up to 60 per cent less than traditional braces, with an average treatment length of only 6 months.
