WhatsApp officially declares app mobilization for businesses, aims to exhort big bucks from formidable industry moguls

WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned cross-platform instant messaging service has been clearing the decks in a bid to mint green stuff by means of charging large-sized businesses. The company aims to do so by permitting the big shots to use its specialized tools to communicate better with customers. In addition, it has been rumored that WhatsApp will offer a free app to SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises), though the details about the supposed functionality of this business app are still in the dark. However, it is deemed that this enterprise solution will allow conglomerates to provide their consumers with notifications along the likes of delivery confirmations, flight times, etc.

For the uninitiated, WhatsApp’s inception commenced in the year 2009, and it was taken over by Facebook, the gargantuan social media behemoth, for a colossal valuation of more than USD 22 billion, in 2014. At the time of the acquisition, WhatsApp wasn’t valued for a lot, however, it had been speculated that the monetary worth of its takeover had been more than the market valuation of the Japan-based computer storage devices market giant, Sony Corporation.

The company has publicly expounded that it intends to facilitate ease of operational ability for tasks such as staying in touch with consumers, checking out the latest styles at the store, or placing order with local food hangouts. Experts even cite that WhatsApp may charge businesses such as e-commerce stores, financial institutions, airlines, etc., to deploy numerous representatives for instant, consistent messaging and efficient account management.

What the new features may entail for businesses

WhatsApp had originally commenced the testing of verified accounts for businesses more than a week earlier. If sources are to be believed, WhatsApp aims to design the app with features that may help encrypt as well as block business contacts. A contact that is absent on the user’s phone contacts, may appear as their officially registered name/number in the directory. In effect, this methodology may work similar to the Facebook Messenger, and is more than likely to enable WhatsApp to create a business search engine with sponsored results.

The instant messaging service has also officially declared its closed pilot program in order to verify business accounts and seamlessly distinguish them from personal or even fake accounts. As per the reports that have surfaced so far, the program would feature a green badge near a business contact, thereby indicating that the contact has been safely verified by the messaging service. So far, the company has not let the proverbial cat out of the bag, as far as the details of the monetization are concerned. However, it intends to carefully look out for feedback during its testing tenure, to ensure that its tools designed for businesses garners popularity amidst the masses.
