XPO Logistics & Nestle construct food distribution center in UK

Nestle S.A. and XPO Logistics Inc., one of the ten biggest transport & logistics service providers based in the U.S., have jointly set up a venture for constructing a 6,38,000-sq. foot distribution center in Leicestershire, England. Reportedly, the ownership rights of the new unit will be with XPO. However, the establishment will comprise Nestle’s consumer packaged items such as Maggi noodles, KitKat, and Nescafe.

Nestle has claimed that the construction will be completed by 2020. The new structure is likely to include modern sorting systems as well as robotics along with state-of-the-art automation technology co-developed by both XPO and Swisslog Logistics Automation.

According to XPO Logistics Inc., the establishment will enable effective product distribution as the center boasts of direct access to the M1 motorway, located in the vicinity of East Midlands. In addition, the site has an on-site railway terminal linked to the London Gateway, Southampton, Channel Tunnel, and Felixstowe ports.

David Hix, supply chain director of Nestle S.A., has stated that the firm is thrilled to work with XPO Logistics for building a flagship digital warehouse & tech lab at East Midlands Gateway Logistics Park. He further added that its collaboration with XPO will promote innovation as well as experimentation across the UK logistics operations, thereby helping to shape the future business of the firm.

Richard Cawston, Managing Director of the supply chain division in XPO Logistics Europe, has claimed that both the firms together are likely to generate a substantial number of avenues for exploring new technologies across the state-of-the-art logistics environment. He emphasized that the new establishment will prove to be a pivotal platform for XPO in terms of maintaining an invention and innovation driven environment.

As per Andrew Bridgen, MP for North West Leichestershire, the very fact that two humongous giants have chosen Leicestershire for the facility depicts the region’s promise as a viable investment destination. He also emphasized that the move will prove to be fruitful for the growth of the regional economy.
