Altaire’s veterinary ophthalmic products recalled due to QA concerns
  • Altaire Pharmaceuticals recalls specific product/lots of ophthalmic drugs created for Dechra Veterinary Products, due to sterility concerns.

  • No adverse effects have been reported yet.

  • The recall has been carried out in compliance with a review conducted by Altaire.

New York-based Pharma company Altaire Pharmaceuticals, Inc has today announced the voluntary recall of their veterinary ophthalmic medical products and their lots, within the date of expiry.

This recall has been initiated as a precautionary measure, due to concerns regarding the Quality Assurance sufficiency in the manufacturing center. The product lots which have been recalled will be assessed as a part of the review conducted by Altaire.

Altair has not received any reports of adverse effects from the use of these products and their lot numbers as of now.

This recall is limited to the specific lots listed. Other lots have not been recalled.

Vetropolycin Ophthalmic Ointment – an ointment for the treatment of superficial bacterial eyelid infections and conjunctiva in cats and dogs.

Vetropolycin HC Ophthalmic Ointment - used in the treatment of chronic or acute conjunctivitis in cats and dogs.

Puralube Vet Ophthalmic Ointment – used as a lubricant to prevent dryness and irritation of the eye in cats and dogs.

These ophthalmic products are produced and branded exclusively for Dechra Veterinary Products.  The products are shipped to Dechra Veterinary products by Altaire and are further distributed by Dechra.

Dechra has been officially notified by Altaire regarding the recall, via email on the 22nd of August 2019, detailing the products/lots to be recalled and specific instructions to implement the recall. Dechra has also been asked to notify all their supply chain partners of the recall and implement a sub-recall at the retail level as well.

The products/lots have been recalled with US FDA’s knowledge.

This recall comes along the heels of several prior recalls of other OTC drug products announced by Altaire Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
