Amazon India has reportedly partnered with the Indian Industries Association (IIA) and Invest India to unveil one district one product (ODOP) Bazaar on its online platform.
The India ODOP Bazaar will comprise hundreds of Geographical Indication (GI) and ODOP products from local businesses across all states of India. Through this partnership, Amazon intends to showcase its support towards launching and onboarding sellers selling local products on its Indian platform www.amazon.in.
The storefront will primarily focus on handicrafts and handlooms created by regional Indian artisans along with agricultural specialties that are locally produced across the country.
The India ODOP Bazaar will offer an engaging and interactive experience to consumers, who will be able to visit the local pages and know more about the ODOP products from districts across India and make a more insightful purchasing decision.
Talking about the collaboration, Narayan Rane, the Union Minister of MSMEs expressed that the ministry is fostering the growth of MSMEs by offering a strong support system to promote Made in India products and improve the export potential of these MSMEs. Adding further, Rane said that Amazon is taking the right steps in the right direction by launching India ODOP Bazaar.
Manish Tiwary, the Country Manager of India Consumer Business at Amazon India expressed that the organization is delighted to join forces with IIA and Invest India and support the Government of India’s ODOP initiative that fosters agricultural products, handicrafts, and handlooms created by local farmers and artisans. Tiwary added that the move will help in expediting economic growth, generating employment, and fostering rural entrepreneurship.
Like the India ODOP Bazaar, Amazon India has implemented many initiatives to encourage the growth of small businesses throughout the country and it currently has more than 10 lakh sellers on its platform, out of which nearly 90 percent are MSMEs.
