Drone Express and Kroger partner to offer grocery delivery via drones

Kroger, the largest grocery retailer in America, has reportedly partnered with Drone Express to initiate grocery delivery using drones. The pilot drone delivery will take place in the Midwest this spring. This will help the retail company expand its seamless ecosystem and offer a wide range of products to consumers almost anytime and anywhere.

Jody Kalmbach, Group Vice President of Product Experience for Kroger, said that the company’s new drone delivery is part of its innovative and evolutionary e-commerce business. It includes shipping, delivery and pickup and has reached sales of over USD 10 billion in 2020.

Kalmbach also added that the pilot strengthens the importance of immediacy and flexibility to consumers, powered by cost-effective, efficient and modern last mile solutions. The company is delighted to test drone delivery and gain information that will help in devising expansion plans along with future consumer solutions, he claimed.

The Drone Express technology enables package delivery to a consumer’s smartphone location. It means that consumers can not only order stuff from their homes or offices but can order products while at a park or on a beach, thus offering unparalleled flexibility to consumers.

Kroger is developing a system to offer bundled products that will be ideal for meeting all sorts of consumer needs and still stay within current drone delivery weight limit of five pounds. For demonstration purposes, Kroger will provide a baby care bundle with formula and wipes, a S’mores bundle with marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate and a child wellness bundle with over-the-counter fluids and medications.

The Chief Technology Officer of TELEGRID, Beth Flippo stated that autonomous drones possess unlimited potential to enhance daily activities and the company’s technology provides an option for secure, environment friendly and safe deliveries for Kroger consumers.

The CTO further said that there are endless possibilities for consumers. They can now order products on short notice and get it delivered within no time, for instance, if a consumer runs out of oil while cooking dinner, he/she can get it delivered fast via drone pilots.
