Eargo collaborates with VARTA to power Eargo 5 hearing device

Eargo, Inc., an American hearing aid manufacturer, has reportedly collaborated with VARTA AG, a battery maker, to power its recently launched hearing aid, Eargo 5. This medical-grade device is the smallest and most advanced hearing aid released by the company to date.

VARTA’s fully customized and rechargeable battery can provide up to 5 years of running time and deliver the highest energy density in Eargo 5. This smallest hearing aid produced by the American manufacturer is fully chargeable within 4 hours and lasts for up to 16 hours, owing to the deployment of lithium-ion technology, while meeting the highest safety levels.

According to Rory Pynenburg, Eargo’s Engineering Lead, Power Systems, the company has been maintaining a strong relationship with VARTA over the past six years. Its significant shift towards lithium-ion batteries will help match Eargo 5’s functionality as well as allow seamless charging to support full runtime over several years.

As per the statement made by Torsten Schmerer, General Manager of Microbatteries at VARTA, the company’s development of lithium-ion batteries for Eargo 5 highlights the expertise of its technicians, engineers, and electrochemists in meeting the demand for advanced consumer healthcare products.

The battery manufacturer notably developed its lithium-ion battery solution in a 15-month period. Additionally, it has specifically established a completely customizable production line for Eargo.

Eargo 5 is the 5th generation, medical-grade, and FDA Class II exempt hearing aid of Eargo, designed to be customizable to the hearing needs of the users via the new Sound MatchTM technology. Through this innovative technology, the device will allow at-home hearing screenings as well as custom tuning without the need for clinic visits. The product will potentially cater to over 43 million Americans who are apparently suffering from hearing loss.

The hearing aid will be available for online purchase at an introductory price of $2950, along with financing available for over $123 per month.  In addition, the product will come with a 2-year warranty and a 45-day money-back guarantee.
