Edgars partners with Pargo to reinforce online shopping services

Department store company Edgars has reportedly partnered with last-mile delivery company Pargo to reinforce its online shopping services through its click-and-collect offering.

Customers can now order online and choose delivery at one of the 100 stores available on Pargo or its network of over 3,000 pickup points as per their convenience without rescheduling their delivery date like conventional delivery services.

The Pargo service allows customers to choose the delivery date of their choice. The click-and-collect offering helps Edgars to increase its customer reach in areas like rural or informal settlements where product delivery is challenging.

The retailer has remarked that it may prove difficult to carry out delivery services in South Africa despite the substantial growth in the e-commerce industry.

Retailability e-commerce head Richard Mclennan has cited that the organization aims to offer online shopping convenience by giving a chance to easily get their order irrespective of their location.

This is the most substantial planned move in the online delivery offering of the retailer since Edgars was purchased by the owners of Legit and the Retailability group two years ago.

Edcon, the previous owners of Edgars, decided to drastically reduce its store presence to limit its financial pressures. It focused on placing itself across regional malls instead of every mall.

In the retail vertical, Pargo has collaborations with Mr. Price, TFG, and Cape Union Mart. Pargo’s CEO Lars Veul has expressed that the Click & Collect feature solves the crucial issue of the inability to deliver at informal addresses.

Reportedly, Silulo Ulutho Technologies is partnering with Pargo to extend access to pickup points across informal settlements.

The partnership adds 43 Pargo pickup points at the service centers of Silulo Ulutho across three provinces and intends to empower retailers as well as online shoppers.

Silulo’s service centers register a daily consumer footfall of 110 which makes it an ideal partner to expand Pargo’s footprint in rural areas and townships.
