FedEx & Port of Hueneme team up to ease U.S. supply chain issues

FedEx Corporation has reportedly established a new partnership with the Port of Hueneme to address issues arising in the U.S. supply chain.

Through this new collaboration, households in the United States will find replenishment of essential products like automotive materials, electronics, and garments along with general department store merchandise on store shelves owing to the innovative services.

Talking about this new venture, Congresswoman Julia Brownley expressed her belief that it is critical for businesses to move goods efficiently through the entire supply chain and stated that the port infrastructure plays an important role in making that happen.

With mounting pressures on the supply chain, such services are not only crucial to goods movement and U.S. consumers but also to reduce emissions by relieving waterborne and shoreside bottlenecking at the larger congested ports while reaping benefits for the local community.

Expressing strong support from the board, Commissioner Rooney stated that these services bring numerous opportunities that encourage sustainable growth, and economic prosperity. Such cargo operations create well-paid jobs.

Commissioner Rooney added that the success of these services provides crucial revenue to invest in zero emissions and sustainable operation technologies like the electric UTRs, or cargo handling trucks, procured by the Port to offload containers.

This operation is the first of many chartered vessels slated to arrive at Hueneme with an aim of additional scheduling over the next year based on initial success. With the lining up of FedEx-owned chassis and ready truckers, the cargo will be quickly departed from the base to distribution plants that are lined up off-port.

Notably, the Port of Hueneme has witnessed record exports and imports as it bolsters the difficulties in the supply chain. Imports increased by 123 percent whereas exports by 200 percent in the first half of FY22 through strong collaborations with the ocean carriers, the Navy, stevedores among others that maintain cargo movement and keep the Port uncongested.
