Henkel acquires professional hair business of Shiseido in Asia Pacific

Henkel AG & Co. KGaA has reportedly completed the acquisition of Shiseido’s business of Professional hair. The business includes top brands of professional hair like Primience and Sublimic under the licensed brand of Shiseido Professional.

The business expanding alliance between Shiseido and Henkel is strengthened through Shiseido’s retention of a 20% share in the Japan-based business legal entity.

The agreement for the acquisition was penned on February 9th,2022. In FY21, the acquired organization registered sales of over USD 104.32 million (100 million euros) and hired around 500 employees.

According to Regional President at Henkel Consumer Brands Asia David Tung, the acquisition has enabled the company to position itself as a leader in the business of professional hair in the region.

David added that Henkel has also established its footprint in South Korea and poses as a leader in the Thailand market.

The inclusion of Shiseido Professional, after success as a global expert in hair color trends and innovations in Schwarzkopf Professional, brings further understanding and capabilities in the solutions offered for J-beauty scalp care, hairstyling, anti-hair loss, and perm.

It should be noted that a J-beauty innovation hub will be established in Tokyo to create and customize products for Asian consumers. It will form a foundation for new ingredient formulation and product development for both Schwarzkopf and Shiseido Professional brands.

Henkel is developing a robust growth and innovation platform to guide its business of professional hair in Asia. The company will simultaneously increase its speed to market, customer-centricity, and digitize its business.

Henkel’s professional hair business accounts for leading market positions across various global market segments.

The business is amongst the top three beauty firms globally and provides a comprehensive portfolio of hair styling, coloration, and hair care brands exclusively for hairdressers like Bonacure, Schwarzkopf Professional, Authentic Beauty Concept, and Igora Royal.
