Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc (HLDS) has reportedly launched HL-DP™, an IoT operating platform, for smart retail.
The HL-DP™ platform is based on the IoT device management standard LwM2M that not only offers the display of sensor collected data but also different user-friendly features which include remote sensor device control and monitoring.
The platform offers users simple controls to operate the device without visiting the site by utilizing fine adjustments like setting the sensor angle. In addition, it also saves maintenance costs through self-diagnosis, fault monitoring, and Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA).
Another characteristic of the HL-DP™ platform is the provision of interworking API features that allows management through the integration of different sensors.
Apart from the 3D LiDAR sensor TOF that accurately detects 3D insights about an object, the platform can be managed by linking to dust, temperature, and humidity sensors. A robust synergy effect is expected when face recognition-based devices are slated to be released by the company as customer insights can be connected and secured.
HLDS is already commercializing sensor solutions for smart retail stores through partnerships with key retailers. HLDS solutions are being offered to major convenience stores in Japan and Korea to execute new cashier-less stores. Not only that but smart retail solutions are also being piloted and implemented in different types of retail stores.
These sensors are more talked about due to their relatively low investment, high accuracy, and maintenance costs in comparison to current technologies used for cashier-less stores.
It is worth noting that HLDS is a joint venture between Japan’s Hitachi Ltd and Korea’s LG Electronics and leads in optical drives like Blu-ray and DVD players for PCs. The company has developed various 3D and 2D sensors using highly accurate optical technology in these optical drives.
With the recent commercialization of smart stores, these sensors have garnered significant attention.
