JD Sports keen on expanding its business beyond national borders

In a move to expand its business across the Asia Pacific zone, JD Sports, Sports & Leisurewear retailer, has launched its stores in South Korea and Australia. Last year alone, the retail giant had established nine new retail stores in the APAC region.

For the record, the firm has nearly fifty-six retail stores across the European Zone. In March this year, the company decided to acquire Finish Line, Inc., a shoe retailer, for £400 million. Peter Cowgill, the executive chairman of JD Sports, has proclaimed that since the U.S. is a huge market, the acquisition will provide the firm an opportunity to increase its geographical presence.

In 2017, the sports fashion retail firm had accrued soaring profits, registering a 24% increase in the pre-tax profit to £294.5 million. Its turnover increased by 33%, rising to £3.2 billion till 3rd February of this year, a landmark achievement in the history of the organization. Experts view that JD Sport’s performance has proved to be an exception as compared to other retail organizations that have experienced a decline in their revenues owing to tough competition from online retail stores, escalating wages, and decrease in the football popularity.

One of the key officials of the firm has credited the company’s success to its most aspiring leisurewear and footwear products. It has been reported that JD even accrued a huge revenue via its outdoor business, which include Blacks, Go Outdoors, and Millets. The firm has earned EBITDA of nearly £23 million this year as compared to £7 million during the same period last year.

The executive chairman of the sports retail firm has stated that though brick and mortar are the focus of JD Sports, it is investing more in the eCommerce business activities with a goal of spanning a wider consumer base, making its presence felt across the globe.
