Shopify launches ‘Shop’ mobile app to compete with retail firm Amazon

Canadian e-commerce giant Shopify is all set to compete with Amazon with the launch of a new shopping app named ‘Shop’ that connects consumers with local businesses. Similar to Amazon, Shop consists of an extensive range of services and offers real-time delivery updates. With the help of this app, users can track every order that is made from a merchant on Shopify.

According to sources, the ‘Shop’ app is available only for iOS and Android platforms. The company did not introduce the web version of the app. The Shop also enables users to follow their favorite stores and buy products directly from the app. The app displays and aggregates some of the products from these stores on a single page. Users can also view the store or products in a browser view with the app.

This shopping app leverages the company’s Arrive, and Shopify pay to create a cohesive shopping experience. To this date, Shopify Pay has handled transactions of over $8 billion in sales. On the other hand, Arrive has been used by more than 16 mn users to track their delivery orders. By using Shop, users can receive personalized recommendations and updates from their favorite brands. The app also consists of features that allow shoppers to discover local businesses.

Shopify is renowned for its e-commerce platform that empowered over one million businesses to develop online stores. The launch of the ‘Shop’ app is the biggest move taken by the company in the e-commerce sector.

In the year 2019, the company announced the launch of significant services and acquisitions that would enable Shopify to compete with Amazon. In June 2019, the company introduced the Shopify Fulfillment Network, and in Sept. 2019, it acquired 6 River Systems which is one leading cloud-based fulfillment software and mobile robots companies.
