UAE launches WhatsApp service to access COVID-19 related information

United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reportedly launched a new WhatsApp service that will offer the latest, trustworthy, and accurate COVID-19 related information. This new service will cater to the residents and patients in the region who are maintaining self-isolation at their homes.

The new smart service known as Covid-19 Home Isolation Programme can be adopted free of cost. It was launched by the DoH (Department of Health) Abu Dhabi by forming a collaboration with the ADPHC (Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre). It is an automated chatbot service that will continuously deliver solutions and answers to the frequently asked questions, related to COVID-19 and home isolation.

According to DoH Abu Dhabi’s acting under-secretary, Dr. Jamal Mohammaed Al Kaabi, the department is focusing on serving the entire community that has been facing challenges due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. It prioritizes on ensuring the health and safety of people in the UAE region. Through the recent WhatsApp service, it will emphasize on using all the possible means to serve the patients as well as the larger community by delivering efficient and reliable healthcare services to ensure further safety.

Facebook MENA’s managing director, Ramez Shehadi, has stated that the social media engagement rate has considerably increased in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. By adopting these platforms, people can stay connected with their family, friends, and communities. Additionally, the company also expressed its excitement towards offering communication tools to the DoH Abu Dhabi to effectively respond to various questions raised by the citizens about the coronavirus. It will ensure that people stay safe with timely and reliable health advice.

WhatsApp users can gain access to the new app by sending a ‘Hi’ message on a dedicated number, after which they will be given a menu of options to receive the relevant coronavirus information or visit the DoH’s COVID-19 website.
